Military Heritage
FOUNDED ON THE STARS & STRIPES
Both our founders come from a long line of military service, so it goes without saying that our patriotism runs deep. The materials in each and every one of our bags is sourced and assembled on American soil, because we believe a country worth fighting for is a country worth supporting. But that’s not all. We also dedicate a portion of our profits every month to military families and causes across the country.
WHY IS OUR LOGO FLAG BACKWARDS?
We do this to honor the military and specifically our two owner's fathers who both served. The backwards flag has significant meaning and is explicitly addressed in Army regulations. The rule is that the blue field of stars should always be in the highest position of honor on the uniform.
During the Civil War, both mounted cavalry and infantry units would designate a standard bearer, who carried the flag into battle. As this standard bearer charged, his forward momentum caused the flag to stream back. Since the Stars and Stripes are mounted with the canton closest to the pole, that section of the flag stayed to the right, while the stripes flew to the left. Therefore, the backward American flag on Army uniforms is to make it look as though the flag is flying in the breeze as the person wearing it moves forward.
WHY DOES OUR FLAG HAVE 4 STARS?
The four stars represent the fathers of our owners and our two owners. Our two owners are named after their fathers, so all four are named James (called Jim). Four Jims = Four Stars. Got it? This is part of the reason for the name "JimGear" as well. The other is the obvious play on words.
